The Sawyer
Jeremy is the woodworker behind Nifty. Taking his old gamertag along for the ride, Nifty Woodworks is his namesake. He's the guy running the sawmill and working most of our projects!
-
The Creative
Rachel is the creative brains behind Nifty Woodworks, including our logo and website, as well as marketing. She even develops some of the plans we use to produce projects!
-
The Goodest Girl
Sadie is our shop mascot. She loves napping in sawdust and is especially adept at herding humans. Don’t worry: she loves to greet new guests in her loudest voice, but she is also completely scared of bugs--all bark, no bite. :)
-
The Organizer
Gwen is our daughter and has been out in our shop since she started walking. She loves helping and is particularly adept at organizing, but loves tagging random surfaces with Sharpies, too! Don't be surprised if you receive a shipping box with her art--it's an OG Gwen Creation. ;)

The Conversator
Toby loves to carry on a good conversation and can tell you everything you ever needed to know about virtually any vehicle or tool. He loves ride-alongs in the skid loader, and dreams of someday becoming the first astronaut to land an excavator on the moon!
About Us
Decades ago, Jeremy was a dedicated gamer who had come to be known by his gamertag: NiftyApple. It was actually a random choice, but he's always loved it, and when we started focusing more on professional woodworking and expanding our hobbies, we wanted to pay homage to his many years in the gaming world. Nifty Woodworks was born, and with it, our logo that pays that homage with the apple in the logo mark.
Nifty Woodworks is truly a labor of family love. We love what we do, and we hope you love what we can make for you, too!

Sawmill
In 2017, after admiring many of Jeremy's favorite woodworking bloggers with their own sawmills, we embarked on a journey to make our own Alaskan chainsaw sawmill. After seeing the size of the logs we had on our property, we knew we needed a beast, and so we built a rig that could cut 48″ diameter logs, up to 16′ long. After a lot of hard work, elbow grease, and more cuts and bruises than we care to admit, our sawmill was born.

Community
When you work with wood as much as we do, you start to learn a lot about different species of wood, as well as how to properly cultivate and care for trees. We are honored to be among the first called when members of our community have questions about the care and maintenance of their trees, and for identification and help on logs. Additionally, we're proud to be one of the first to show up during times of emergency with our chainsaws, winches, and trailers. In fact, following the derecho in August 2020, we sprang to action to help clear streets and remove logs from fences and even a house.

Why Woodworking?
Woodworking is a family tradition. Both of us had fathers who worked with wood, our grandfathers, our great grandfathers and so on… It’s in our blood. Jeremy has been working with wood since he was knee high to a grasshopper. We also both loved helping with construction projects around our respective childhood homes and arms. As Jeremy got old enough to use his own tools, his love grew. After we bought our house, we created a dedicated woodshop where we both could build and work with wood to our heart's content. We're happy to see projects leave our doors knowing our hearts are poured into each piece.
